Mucuna Pruriens, also known as Velvet bean, contains L-Dopa. This is a dopamine precursor and sometimes used as a pharmaceutical to treat Parkinson’s Disease (alongside another compound known as Carbidopa).

My experience using Mucuna Pruriens
Since May 2018 I’ve started using Mucuna Pruriens and below i will highlight the dosage I used along with the effects that I experienced.
I normally try to train at 5 am in the morning and to yield the greatest benefit I decided to add mucuna pruriens to my pre-workout. I added a quater teaspoon to my pre-workout with 500ml of water and taken on an empty stomach. No lie here, the taste is horrible.
The first immediate effect that I noticed was a little bit of dizziness but once the dizziness wore off, during my warm up, there was a greater level of muscle activation. Once I started my training session, with the first set of the exercise, I felt my muscles activate to a level of how it would feel as if I was training for atleast 30 minutes. I also felt all the smaller muscles being activated, muscles which normally take a while to start working, activated almost immediately. I also noticed that the muscles that I normally have a hard time working activated without much effort.
The next effect was my mood, I was feeling really good, not ecstatically happy but a more positive mood and mind set and this obviously contributed to having a great workout session. I remember even telling myself “I haven’t had a workout session like this in a really long time”. My energy level was great, I wasn’t feeling drained out at all. Through out the day, I was much more positive as well. Recently my days have been really stressful but I noticed that with the stress, I was mentally and physically more relaxed with less tension.
Lastly, after using the mucuna consistently for the last 3 months, I have put on a bit of lean muscle mass as well. My back and chest have grown and my muscles are more defined and shaped as well, not to the extent that steroids would make it grow but growth atleast by 0.5cm.
All in all, I would definitely use this for mood enhancement and for improving physical performance and a major benefit with today’s fast paced lifestyle to also reduce stress levels. I will be combining this with Rhodiola Rosea and DMSO to see the effects and will publish that once I have done my experiments.
